Your privacy, in short
A shorter version of our Privacy Policy, written for younger readers. The full one is at /privacy-policy and it says the same things in more detail.
#Reading costs you nothing
You do not need an account to read anything here. No sign-in, no name, no email address. Every recipe and every article is free to read and free to print, and that is not going to change.
#If we ask you a question about cookies, you can say no
In some places we ask whether we can count what gets read on the site. If we ask you and you say no, nothing happens to you. The site works exactly the same. You can still read everything, print everything, and come back tomorrow.
Saying no is exactly as easy as saying yes. If you change your mind either way, there is a link at the bottom of every page.
#One thing happens before we ask
The lettering on this site comes from Google. Your browser fetches it as the page loads, which tells Google your internet address and what browser you are using. It happens before we ask you anything, we cannot switch it off from here, and it is not joined up with anything else. We are changing it so the lettering comes from us instead.
#What we know about you if you say yes
Which pages were opened on your browser. That is it. We give your browser a random number so we can tell one browser from another, and we keep that for a bit over a year.
We do not try to work out who you are. Not your name, not your age, not where you live, not what you are interested in. We do not build a picture of you, and we never sell anything about you to anyone.
#An account is for 16 and over
If you want to save recipes, follow writers, leave comments, or post a photo of something you cooked, you need an account, and you have to be 16 or older. That is our rule. We do not keep your date of birth. If we ever ask your age, we keep only the answer — old enough, or not.
If you have an account, we keep your email address, the name you chose to show, and the things you save or post.
#If you post something, other people see it
Comments, recipes you write, and photographs of your food are public, with the name you chose next to them. Someone reads everything before it appears.
Do not put your address, your school, your phone number, or anyone else's photograph in what you post.
#You can ask us to stop
Email info@thecookscook.com and put Privacy Request in the subject line. You can ask us to:
- tell you what we have about you
- fix anything that is wrong
- delete it
We answer within 30 days. If it is complicated it can take a bit longer, and we will tell you. You do not have to give a reason.
If you are under 18 and would rather a parent or another adult asked for you, that is fine — they can, and we will check with you first.
#If something is wrong
If someone is being unkind to you here, or you see something that should not be on the site, tell us at info@thecookscook.com. Anyone can report something — you do not have to be the person it is about.
We are The Cook's Cook LLC, 19 Gill Street, Exeter, New Hampshire 03833, United States.
